You know you're adopting when...

In case anyone wants to know what it's like to live in a house, raising your children with an awareness of adoption, here are a couple of the funny comments I have overheard my boys saying.

  • "Let's play orphan cars!"...instead of just cars.
  • "Look, mommy, it's an orphan snake!!  (Fletcher calls all of his poop #2's "snakes."  When he only has one, he calls it an orphan.)
  • Lawson talking to Fletcher when they're playing puppy dogs, "Ah, did you lose your mommy?  Oh, you don't have one?  I'll adopt you."
  • When we prayed for Ruthie before we knew who she was, Lawson would pray for her "as she doesn't have any parents."  And Fletch would always chime in "Yes, she do!", meaning us, of course.
  • When we told our boys that Aunt Lindsay was having a baby, Lawson asked as if everyone does this, "Oh, cool, is she adopting?"

These are things that I just never said as a little girl and really wasn't very familiar with.  I'm so thankful that my family has this awesome blessing from God, poured all over them at an early enough age to play "orphan cars."
